Before going to bed at night, write out something you are grappling with, and sleep on it. Pose the problem as a question, and don’t be frantic about not knowing the answer. Let the question seep into your consciousness. Your journal or notebook will listen without jumping to a conclusion. Your page will sit with the unanswered question while you get some sleep.

First thing in the morning, write up whatever comes to mind. Do not be concerned if no immediate solution is there.

Now that it is on paper, your brain is working on it.

You will be alert to the answer when it presents itself during your day.
